The Deputy Minister for Defence and the Member of Parliament for Atwina Kwanwoma Constituency, Honourable (Hon) Kofi Amankwa-Manu has commissioned a newly built multi-purposed office complex for the Signal Training School in Burma Camp on Wednesday, 19 July 2023.

The Deputy Minister who was the Guest of Honour in his address mentioned that the occasion was an important milestone in the annals of the Signal Corps of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), adding that it symbolises a new beginning to enhance capacity building in modern communication and technology in warfare.

He highlighted that the partnership between GAF and German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) over the years has witnessed significant landmark projects including support towards the establishment of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, upgrading of facilities at the Engineer Training School and provision of essential logistic support to the 48 Engineer Regiment which has enhanced the deployment of the first engineer unit with the United Nations Multi-Dimensional Peacekeeping Mission in Mali amongst others.

The German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Daniel Krull in his remarks commended the Government of Ghana and GAF for the constant collaboration and assistance exhibited to GAFTAG. He added that the German Government is ready and willing to assist GAF through GAFTAG in areas of training and capacity building.

HE Daniel Krull lauded DK Construction Enterprise, Woerman Ltd Ghana, Furler Architects and the Directorate of Engineer Services of GAF for providing additional support for the completion of the edifice. 

Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama added that the Signal Training School traces its origin to the Gold Coast Wireless Company which was part of the British colonial force in the then Gold Coast. He revealed that during World War II, the Wireless Company participated in the war in the support role and subsequently became a training squadron to train personnel on military communication and thereafter became the main communication training institution for other sister security services until it was renamed Signals Training School.

The edifice is an ultra-modern 2-storey office which consist of 5 Lecture Rooms, Radio Lab, Information Communication Technology Lab, an Auditorium, Cyber Lab, an Electronic Warfare Classroom, 2 Server Rooms, a Store Room, Unmanned Area Vehicle Drone Lab, a Library, Kitchenette, Briefing Room, 13 offices, and a roof training area with attached 30m High Radio Transmission Tower.

The project which started in October 2021 was fully funded by the German Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG).
