The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has paid familiarization visit to Army units within 1 Garrison on Wednesday 10 April, 2024.
He visited the 1 Infantry Battalion (1BN), 851 Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Regiment, and Base Ammunition Depot (BAD) where he outlined his vision to maintain a cohesive, motivated and well-rounded army in order to enhance coordination within the Ghana Army.
In a centralised briefing with the key appointment holders, Commander of 851 EOD Regiment, Colonel Gasper Asare, Commander Rear 1 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Adams, and Commanding Officer BAD, Lieutenant Colonel Issah Tahiru, the COAS was briefed on the area of operations, administrative structure, logistics capabilities, welfare, equipment inventory, readiness levels and challenges by the various units.
Subsequently, he proceeded to the Army Recruits Training School (ARTS) where the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Wahab Issah briefed him on Operational, Administration, Logistics and Welfare, as well as challenges including of food storage facilities, poor lighting conditions, poor internal roads, and inadequate accommodation.
Major General Onwona on his part assured the Commanding Officers the commitment of the Military High Command to alleviate their challenges.
At a durbar with all ranks, COAS commended personnel for their hard work and dedication to duty, and also advised personnel to eschew unprofessional behaviours that have the tendency to put the image and reputation of the service into disrepute; advising personnel on ensuring peace and patriotism when nominated to be part of “Operation Peace Trail” in the upcoming general elections.
COAS urged personnel to cooperate with other security agencies and the media in order to ensure peaceful coexistence between the security agencies.
He made a promised to continue the projects started by his predecessor in order to resource the training and ensure the welfare of personnel.
