The President and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that Ghana was safe from terrorist activities when he delivered State of the Nation Address in Parliament, Accra on Tuesday 27 February, 2024. As required by Article 67 of the Constitution, the President touched on the current peace and security of the country which he attributed to the meticulousness and alertness of security agencies in the country. According to him, Government has undertaken several measures to ensure that the civil unrest in Bawku comes to an end for peace to reign. He emphasised that the threat of terrorism and violent extremism was rapidly spreading southwards from the Sahel to coastal West Africa hence called for continuous vigilance and cautioned against taking the territorial integrity of the country for granted. The C-in-C affirmed that Ghana has not recorded a terrorist attack due to deliberate policy and planning on the part of Government, and a lot of hard work and dedication on the part of security services. He said Government has approved expansion of the Ghana Armed Forces and all other security agencies. President Akufo-Addo indicated that Government has quickened the pace of the retooling and equipping of security agencies to ensure readiness towards emerging security threats. He assured Ghanaians that the upcoming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections would be held peacefully and there would be a smooth transition of power to the President-Elect.
