3 Infantry Battalion (3Bn) has won the Inter Units Steeplechase competition organised by the Central Command at the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani for the second consecutive time on Friday 28 June, 2024.

The competition brought together teams from the Central Command Camp, 3BN, 4 BN, and 145 Armour Regiment for the 12 km run, crossing obstacles such as the 2 to 4 feet bars, 6 and 10 feet walls, tiger net, balance walk and heaving rope, fire and water ditches, 4 feet ramp, belly crawl and the horizontal ladder.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Michael Opoku intimated that the competition was in line with the vision of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Bismark K Onwona on training.

He asserted that steeplechase competition was meant to develop the physical and mental capacity of troops in their continued preparedness to undertake their respective tasks, even before, during and after the upcoming general elections.

Brig Gen Opoku reminded troops that the navigation of obstacles and racing towards victory was a testament of the resilience and perseverance required to overcome professional challenges. The GOC was impressed with the standard of physical fitness, combativeness, determination as well as endurance as exhibited by the competitors.

The Commanding Officer (CO) of 3BN, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Eric Tenadu commended troops for their dedication, hard work and passion towards the preparation for the competition and reminded them not to lose sight of the values military.

3BN won a mower and Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵5000.00) 154 Armour Regiment took second place, award of a set of slashers and a cash price of Two Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵2000). 4Bn emerged third and won for themselves a tabletop fridge and a cash price of One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵1000).

At the end, Lieutenant (Lt) Kwasi Dagbanjah and Warrant Officer Class Two (WOII) Agyapong Fredrick from 4Bn were adjudged the overall best Officer and Warrant Officer of the competition.

Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Kodanu John of 154 Armour Regiment was adjudged the overall best individual. Private Soldier (Pte) Kwo-Nmei Fredrick from 3Bn was the 1^st runner up and Pte Kukua Frank from 3Bn emerged as the 2^nd runner up individual. Pte Pawiah Felicia also of 3Bn emerged as the overall best female.
