The 37 Military Hospital Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) has held matriculation ceremony for 634 new entrants at the forecourt of the College on Friday, December 8 2023.

Out of the total number of six hundred and thirty-four (634) students admitted, four hundred and seven (407) applied to be trained as Registered General Nurses while two hundred and seven (227) would be trained as Midwives.

Special Guest of Honour, Commandant, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Addo Gyane wished the admitted students the best in their journey to becoming nurses and midwives. He urged the matriculants to imbibe cherished values such as discipline, sacrifice and excellence in the Nursing and Midwifery profession since it has been a contributor to the global healthcare workforce with many of them serving in various capacities around the world. He described the 37 Military Hospital NMTC a power house for training for both soldiers and civilians of the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services (GAFMS) and beyond.

The Chairperson for the occasion, Mrs Judith Naa-Klokor Asiama noted that it was crucial for nurses and midwives to be abreast with innovations to elevate their capabilities to march what the patients and industry require.

She said the theme; “Improving Competencies in Nursing and Midwifery Education through Technology” was very important because with the right technology incorporated in the training of students, nurse and midwives, it would ultimately elevate the standard of healthcare delivery.

The Acting Principal of the College, Major Bright Attah Addae, congratulated the students for being selected to study at the 37 NMTC. He added that the entire faculty looks forward to adding them to the compassionate family of caregivers.

He assured matriculants that the faculty would ensure that the scientific grounding, ethical rules, and irreplaceable hands-on experience from the finest practitioners needed for their excellence in their selected fields would be imparted to them.

Major Addae revealed that amidst the challenges of inadequate hostel facilities, spacious lecture and graduation halls, inadequate caregivers at the demonstration rooms to provide expert assistance, guidance and feedback to students as they practice clinical skills and techniques, the students presented to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for 2022/2023 final terminal diploma examination, both registered General Nursing and Registered Midwifery had 100% distinction.
