Units under 1 Garrison have commemorated the Green Ghana Day at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) under the theme “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow “on Friday 7 June, 2024.

The Garrison Commander and the Flag Officer Commanding ENC, Commodore Maxwell Arhen, led personnel to plant varied species of tree seedings, as part efforts to mitigate the effects of global climate.

Addressing the personnel, the FOC emphasized the urgent need to combat climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss, underscoring the critical role of forests.

He noted that the Green Ghana Day project has been initiated to take a collective and cultural action towards the restoration of degraded forests in the country, mitigate climate change and inculcate in the youth the values of planting and naturing trees to derive all the benefits associated with a balanced biodiversity.

Commodore Arhen expressed grave concerns over the alarming impacts of climate change, resulting from activities such as illegal mining, deforestation and urbanization, advising all to preserve water bodies, reduce waste and adopt eco-friendly services to create a legacy of environmental stewardship that would sustain future generations.

He therefore urged all personnel to participate in the national tree planting exercise, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the trees to maturity to achieve a sustainable future.
