The Army Recruit Training School (ARTS) marked the 2025 edition of the West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) on Friday 12 December 2025 at Shai Hills.

The event was to celebrate a year of intensive training, institutional achievements, and strengthened unit cohesion. This brought together officers, soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff, retirees, traditional leaders, and local government officials.

Speaking on behalf of the Guest of Honour, Commander Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, Colonel Nicholas Baba Adombire-Akologo, Chief Training Officer (ATRAC), commended ARTS for upholding the “Hard Training, Easy Battle” ethos.

He described WASA as more than a ceremonial event, emphasising its role in recognising dedication, discipline, and sacrifice throughout the year. He commended the “silent strength”, of families whose unwavering support enables soldiers to serve and acknowledged personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Commanding Officer ARTS, Lieutenant Colonel Ambitious Nazar, noted that WASA was an essential moment to pause after a demanding training year, celebrate collective achievements, and strengthen the bonds that make the unit a family.

He praised officers, instructors, soldiers, and civilian staff for producing recruits who are physically fit, tactically proficient, and mentally resilient, grounded in strong values. He further acknowledged the enduring support of families, noting that their patience and prayers underpin the school’s success.

The ceremony also honoured eleven retirees with awards and citations for their loyal service and contributions to the school.
