25 February 2019. Ghana’s Consul in Lebanon, His Excellency (HE) Michel Haddad, has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen Obed Boamah Akwa, at his office in Burma Camp on Monday 25 February 2019.
HE Haddad assured CDS that the Ghanaian Battalion (GhanBatt) deployed at Lebanon were executing their duties professionally and were in preparations to celebrate Ghana’s 62nd Independence Day Anniversary.
He appealed to CDS to use his office to advocate for stringent measures through the Foreign Ministry to curb the menace of Ghanaians migrating to Lebanon in search of greener pastures but turn out as domestic helps. He further noted that he had helped in solving the logistical challenges facing the Ghanaian troops in Syria.
Lt Gen Obed Akwa thanked HE Michel Haddad for his efforts in aiding the Ghanaian Battalion and enforcing unity between the Lebanese Armed Forces and GhanBatt.
CDS also promised to appeal to the Foreign Ministry to put policies in place for people who want to migrate to Lebanon for greener pastures to get contracts before embarkation.
HE Haddad later met with some officers who had previously served with United Nations Interim Forces in Liberia (UNIFIL) at the Command Mess.
