President Akufo-Addo Addresses Parliament

21 February 2019.  Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Thursday 21 February 2019, delivered his third State of the Nation Address in Parliament as mandated by Article 66 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

Addressing Members of Parliament, government officials and other dignitaries on the government’s achievements last year, the President applauded the Security Services for keeping the forefront of the country and acknowledged GAF’s assistance to the National Security on operation ROADSTAR to curb the nomadic herdsmen menace in the country.

The President highlighted on the demand to improve the state of the Ghana Military Academy into a world class institution underscoring the need to expand the housing project from 16 flats to 44 and also to begin the construction of 160 flats with 2 bedrooms apartment across the country. He also mentioned the 500 beds Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region which would soon be completed and commissioned.

He touched on the amendment of LI 1332 which seeks to change the length of service of the Men and Women of the other ranks of GAF from 25 to 30 years.  He mentioned that the career progression plan had been reviewed, laid and passed by Parliament and would be implemented this year.

He noted that the Ghana Armed Forces would take delivery of 50 ANKAI Buses, 126 Staff and Operational Vehicles, 26 dispatch Motorcycles, 30 Otokar Armoured Personnel Carriers and 6 Fast Patrol Boats for the Ghana Navy, to aid effective delivery of duty.
