17 August 2018. The final funeral rite of the late Joseph Henry Mensah has been held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Friday, 17 August 2018.
In a tribute read on behalf of the people of Ghana, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo eulogized the late JH Mensah as a good person whose wit and clarity of expression coupled with his natural gravitas were infectious. He added that Mr Mensah was a person who had a sense of confidence about the future.
He mentioned that the late statesman’s attachment to democratic values was profound. “He helped me confirm my conviction that the rapid development of our nation was possible with democratic institutions,” the president said.
The President said that the late JH Mensah was a Brilliant Economist who according to history wrote the Seven Year Development Plan for the Kwame Nkrumah government of the First Republic. Though the era of his political carrier saw negative publicity, imperialist schemes, amongst others, his dignity eventually led him to work with United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Adis Ababa.
The late JH Mensah died at age 89 at the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday 12 July 12, 2018. He served under different governments in various capacities as a Civil Servant, International Public Official, and Member of Parliament amongst others.
The Vice, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the First, Second and Fourth Presidents of the 4th Republic; His Excellences Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kuffuor and John Dramani Mahama respectively, Members of Council of State, Members of Parliament, Diplomatic Corps were in attendance.
The mortal remains of the late JH Mensah was interred at the Military Cemetery at Airport Hills in Accra.
