2 April 2019. A mission accomplishment parade has been held for the United Nation Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) on Tuesday 2 April 2019 at the Parade Square of 5 Infantry Battalion in Burma Camp, Accra.
The Director Army Operations (DAO), Col Twum Ampofo, in an address read on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff, welcomed the troops back home from a successful tour of duty.
He said Command acknowledged their outstanding operational performance at the mission area and was equally satisfied that their efforts did not only restore confidence in the local community, but also created an enabling environment for social reconstruction and development in their Area of Responsibility (AoR).
According to him, as the only formed Unit in Kinshasa, the Battalion undertook some ceremonial and miscellaneous tasks in support of the MONUSCO mandate. He also congratulated them for their selfless humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable and helpless. This mark of human value and respect was the hallmark of Ghanaian peacekeepers, he added.
Col Twum Ampofo said after the troops had taken their deserved rest, some of them would join their colleagues and support them in various operations like Operation Gong Gong, Operation Calmlife, Operation Vanguard among many others.
