19 July 2018. Joseph Ashiteye Hammond, who served in the Second World War (WWII) has been honoured with a Ghana UK Based Achievement Award in the United Kingdom.
The Ninety-three year old man formally presented the award to the Executive Director, Veteran Association, Ghana (VAG), Capt Ben Duah (rtd) at the headquarters of the organisation on Thursday, 19 July, 2018.
Capt Duah (rtd) however, entreated Ghanaians to appreciate veterans for their contribution to the country. He explained that the peace the nation enjoyed was as a result of the selfless sacrifice veterans made.
He also called on Ghanaians to support the upkeep of veterans and cited such could be done by donating to the Poppy Appeal when the time was due.
