DG GAFMS Familiarization Visit to 37 Military Hospital

31 May 2018.  The Director General of the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services (DG GAFMS), Brig Gen Ernest Crosby Saka (Jr) paid a working day’s visit to the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

The visit was to familiarize himself with the current situation of the 37 Military Hospital and also to officially introduce himself to personnel since assumption of office as the DG GAFMS.

Brig Gen Saka (Jr) as part of his familiarization tour firstly visited the Veterinary Department at El-Wak after which he would visit the various health facilities of the various Garrisons under the GAFMS across the country.  He would tour the Duala, Arakan, Kpeshie Medical and Maternity Centers in Accra on June 13, 2018. The 1 Medical Reconnaissance Service (MRS), ARTS on June 20, 2018.

He would also tour the 2 MRS from 27-29 June 2018, 3 and 4 MRS from 11-13 July 2018, 6 MRS from 25-27 July 2018, Jungle Warfare School (JWS) Medical Centre on August 10, 2018 and end at the 7 MRS on August 24, 2018.

At the Boardroom of the facility, the DG GAFMS was briefed by the Commander of the hospital Brig Gen Michael Akwasi Yeboah Agyapong and the Administrative General Officer of the hospital Maj  Alex Abiti  on the operational, administrative, medical and logistical situation of the facility as well as challenges such as accommodation, logistics, break down of some equipment,and shortage of personnel.

He later toured the Opuku, Ghandhi, Yaa Asantewaa Ward, Blood Bank, Laboratrory, Radiology, Renal Dialysis Department, Theatre, and Maternity Department where he cut a tape for the opening of the renovated labour ward and other departments.

Brig Gen Saka (Jr) later had a durbar with all ranks  at the 37 Military Hospital Presbyterian/Methodist Church and challenged personnel to be disciplined and always work as a team to enhance the delivery of good and quality health care to clients.

He commended personnel of the facility for the hard work done so far since the hospital went paperless in spite of its challenges.

During the tour, he was accompanied by the Commanding Officer of the hospital Col Nii Adzah Obodai, Director GAFMS Col Raymond Ewusi, Director Nursing of the GAFMS Col Emelia Duah, Matron of the facility Col Annie Djokoto, Deputy Matron Lt Col  Francisca Amakye and other senior officers.
