Young soldiers of the 49 Engineer Regiment have been inducted into the Unit as Sappers after a 9- week continuous training programme at the Basic Infantry Training School, which started on 12 February, 2018 and ended on 13 April, 2018.
The Unit Commanding Officer (CO), Lieutenant Colonel Abednego Ecclesiastes Shooter in his opening remarks, encouraged the inductees to hold the great discipline and decorum of the Regiment in high esteem. He advised them to learn from the older Sappers by emulating the positive qualities and ignoring the negatives.
According to the Training Officer, Warrant Officer II Anyimah Steven, the training was part of the Regiment’s traditions in order to make them abreast with the rules and regulations of the military and that of the Unit.
As part of the closing ceremony, there was a drill display performed by the new Sappers. After the drill display, a few of them were awarded for their hard work. The overall best Sapper and best academics was awarded to Sapper Akpabli Raymond Kofi and the best drill was awarded to Sapper Nkrumah Steven.
Lt Col A E Shooter in his closing remarks, thanked all instructors and participants as well as guest present for the closing ceremony at the Sappers Square and officially closed the continuous training course for 2018.
