The History Department of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has presented 2 copies of their book to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Thursday 15 March 2018 at the Joint Operations Conference Room in Burma Camp.
The book entitled ‘Africa and the First World War 1914-1918 ’seeks to portray the history of World War 1 written from the African perspective on the theme: remembrance, memories and representations after 100 years and edited by Prof Kwame Osei Kwarteng and Prof De-Valera NYM Botchway as the lead editor.
The Head of Department (HOD) Department of the University, Associate Professor Kwame Osei Kwarteng in his remarks thanked GAF for supporting the department with a cheque of 2,000 Ghana Cedis when the department called on them for their assistance.
He added that the book which cost £64 sought to portray the roles Ghana played in World War 1 and for the book to serve as a reference material in their libraries.
The Chief of Staff (COS), Rear Admiral Beick- Baffour received the books on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant Gen Obed Boamah Akwa and expressed his sincerest gratitude to the department for their kind gesture and also for the interest shown in remembering the roles Ghana played in the World Wars.
He said that the book would be studied, reviewed and recommended as one of the textbooks studied as part of the process for their promotion exams in the Officers category.
He added that their doors were opened and ready to support the department when the need arises.
