The Special Envoy for Relations of the African Austrian, Federal Ministry for Europe, Ambassador Dr Andreas Melan has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen OB Akwa, at his office at Burma camp on Tuesday 18 June 2019.
The purpose of his visit was to deepen the existing bilateral military relations between Ghana and Austria and also explore other ways of supporting the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
Ambassador Melan said the Austrian government had always lauded the astounding relationship between the two countries and had pledged its continuous support to GAF. Adding that the Austrian government was always ready to support flagship programmes such as Peace building, Counter terrorism and Border control at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).
The CDS on his part expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for his visit. Saying the Military High Command had always appreciated the support of the Austrian government to GAF, especially, the National Dog Academy Training School and KAIPTC.
He urged the Austrian government to establish its Embassy in Ghana to strengthen the bilateral relation between the two countries.
Ambassador Dr Andreas Melan was accompanied by the Head of Regional Cooperation and Coordinator of National Security Council, the Directorate for Security Policy of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence, Mr Guenther Barnet.
