The Southern Command of the Ghana Army has conducted a week-long Exercise code named ‘Eastern Shield’ in the Ningo-Prampram District from Monday 10 to Friday 14 February 2020.
Personnel from all seven (7) units of Brigade Southern Command participated in the live simulation exercise that was aimed at training troops on all phases of war. The exercise included Raid, Ambush, Fighting in Built-up Areas (FIBUA) and Close Quarter Battle (CQB).
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command Brigadier General Abraham Yeboah Nsiah stated that the exercise was to foster unity among personnel under his command towards achieving the mandate as stipulated in the constitution.
In an interview, he assured the general public of their readiness to combat any occurrence in and outside the borders of Ghana. The GOC expressed appreciation to all personnel who took part in the exercise including the administration team and personnel of the Ghana Police Service who participated in the simulation of a Cordon and Search exercise in Kopodo, a community near Old Ningo.
Commanding Officer, 5Th Battalion of Infantry Lt Col Seth Odei on his part expressed optimism at the performance of the participants. He said the exercise had revealed some few challenges regarding operating in Built-up areas that personnel needed to work on considering the urbanized nature of Ghanaian communities’ lately.
