The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) has handed over a renovated kitchen with items, as well as an undisclosed amount to the Mahlef foundation in Bankuman, a suburb of Tema Newtown on Wednesday, 21 August 2019, as part of activities to mark the 60th anniversary celebration of the Ghana Navy.
Items donated includes plastic chairs, diapers, assorted drinks, toiletries, bags of rice, cartons of biscuits, boxes of indomie and cooking oil.
ENC also provided free medical screening which included checking of blood pressure, body max index and other medical assessments for the residences of Bankuman.
The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) ENC, Commodore James Osei Kontoh who made the presentation on behalf of ENC, said it was their corporate social responsibility of giving back to the society, adding that, the renovation was to give a clean and healthy kitchen condition to the children and teenage mothers in the foundation.
The founder of Mahlef foundation, Rev Mrs Georgina Happy Crentsil, expressed her appreciation to ENC for the kind gesture and appealed to the public to emulate the example of ENC and the Ghana Navy as a whole.
She said Mahlef stands for “Mama Happy Life Enhancement Foundation” which is a young mother and baby center dedicated to counseling, educating and equipping teenage mothers with resources and skills needed to sustain themselves and their babies.
