Nine students have graduated with a Diploma in Project Design Management (DPDM) at the Post Graduate School of the 37 Military Hospital on Friday, May 27, 2016. The event took place at the Officers Mess of the hospital.

The DPDM programme is a one year part-time course sponsored by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in the United Kingdom and run by the 37 Military Hospital in Accra and the  Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

In his welcome address, the Coordinator of the DPDM course Dr. Edward Asumanu stated that the rationale for the course is to increase the research activities and research profile of health related professionals in the sub-Saharan Africa, especially in Ghana and Zimbabwe.

He said it is to strengthen the research capacity of candidate’s institutions and also to provide grounding in research skills in preparation for postgraduate research studies including professional examinations, Masters and PhD programmes for medical personnel.

Dr. E Asumanu said the purpose of the course is also to provide health professionals in Ghana and Zimbabwe with experience of designing and managing their own research projects on common, local, clinical and other health related problems and to generate people who can understand and do research on health care issues.

The Coordinator on behalf of the Commander of the hospital Brig Gen Ernest Saka commended the grandaunts and urged them to go out to find solutions to whatever problems pertaining to their work that they may encounter that pertains to their work.

A representative of the LSTM and Professor of Tropical Hematology Professor Emelda Bates hinted that the curriculum of the course and its mode of delivery is actually designed by the student themselves to meet the objectives and to enable them use their own research to address a common local clinical problems.

Professor Bates said the outcome of the course will enable the student to devise research questions to address health related problems in their area of specialty. She therefore commended the grandaunts and the lecturers for the hard work done and urged them to be able to come out with solutions to every research done.

In attendance were the Director of the Post Graduate School Col Sunny Mantey, some senior officers and students of the school.
