37 Military Hospital



The Deputy  Minister  for Defence Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has stated that in order to improve the quality of health of the people in the country, the health sectors of the country has witnessed massive infrastructural development by Government over the past few years of which the 37 Military Hospital is not exempted.

Hon Adjei who was also the Guest of Honour for the occasion disclosed that in view of this the 500- Bed Military Hospital in Kumasi which would be the second largest Military hospital will soon be completed to reduce the pressure on the 37 Military Hospital.He said it would also improve access to quality healthcare to the people of the middle and Northern parts of the country and ease the pressure on the Komfo Anokye Hospital and other hospitals in the country.

He made these remarks on the occasion of the 37 Military Hospital Officers’ Mess Annual Ball on Friday, 5 February 2016 at the Officers Mess at the Hospital in Accra.

The Deputy Defence Minister hinted that the 37 Military Hospital is the Base Hospital for the Ghana Armed Forces, a National Emergency and Disaster Hospital and a Level 4 Hospital for the United Nations deployment in West Africa and also serves as a referral centre for many hospitals within and beyond the borders of Ghana.

He congratulated the Commander of the 37 Military Hospital Brig Gen Ralph Ametepi and all  staff of the facility for the dedication and hard work over the years especially during the fire and flood disaster and the Doctors’ strike in 2015 and further assured all staff of the facility to tackle the accommodation problems they are facing .

Awards were presented to some individuals, both officers and civilian officers who have worked hard over the years and some companies who have worked closely with the facility such as Fraga Oil, Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell products, East Cantonment Pharmacy, the Environmental protection Agency (EPA) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

Present to grace the occasion were the Director Medical Services Brig Gen Alhassan, the Acting Commanding Officer of the facility Col Christopher Agbeka, the former Commander of the facility Brig Gen Kponyo (rtd), the former Commanding Officer of the facility Col Abban(rtd), some retired officers, Junior and Senior officers and their wives.

Meanwhile there was a fire outbreak around 11300 hours behind Trauma and Surgical Emergency Unit of the hospital but was quickly put off with the help of some fire extinguishers and the Ghana Armed Forces Fire Tenders without any casualty.
